One of the most beautiful aspects of our Orthodox worship is the beautiful iconography that adorns the walls of the church. This coming summer the Antiochian Village will offer a one-week Iconography Camp held at the Antiochian Village for campers ages 15-18, or entering the 9th grade. This program will be separate from the main Summer Camp Program, as the participants will spend the majority of the week learning how to write a traditional Byzantine icon.
Iconography Camp will be taught by Erin Kimmet of Annunciation Press Icons. While artistic or drawing ability is helpful, all you need is the desire to learn more about the sacred art of Iconography. The week will be spent learning the basics of writing a traditional icon, with trips off-camp to a local iconographer and to a local monastery.
During the hands-on one week session, each participant will complete an 8" x 10" panel icon of Christ the Saviour. Supplies included: 8" x 10" panel prepared with gesso, 23 kt gold leaf, acrylic paint, paint brushes, a resource manual, and various materials required to complete the icon (pencils, tracing paper, shellac, varnish, etc.)
Iconography Camp will be limited to a maximum of 7 female campers and 7 male campers. There will be a male and female counselor for each group. Campers will stay in cabins at the Antiochian Village separate from the summer campers, but participate in meals and services with the summer campers.
